Issues > Migration
Just over one year after its creation, the Migration Working Group (MWG), is continuing to provide support and create great conversation for those conducting studies centered on migrations across the Southwest border. After our initial meeting, a consensus was reached that the group’s time would be divided into two main focus areas.
The first focus area extends from the MWG founding principle, which states that the group will provide a structure of support for graduate students to share fieldwork and writing materials with MWG members, from which the group draws conversation and suggestions. We’d like to thank Jason Cato and José Palafox, who shared their research with us this semester.
The second are of focus is the creation of comprehensive education around current policy items related to migration. At the end of October, MWG members visited the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), where they met with PPIC fellows to discuss the links between academic research and state, local and federal officials and decision makers.
Looking to the future, the MWG is in the planning stages of two events – a day-long seminar about bridging the divide between academics and practitioners as well as a showcase of the talents of MWG members with panel of papers for a future CLPR publication.
